CCEEJ aims to strengthen community organizations' capacity and effectiveness in applying to, managing, and implementing environmental and energy justice grants and programs.

CCEEJ is an EPA- and DOE-supported Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (TCTAC), supporting efforts in California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawai`i, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

CCEEJ is committed to helping community organizations by providing technical assistance that includes: conducting environmental and energy justice needs assessment and analyses; facilitating navigation of government websites; identifying grant opportunities; increasing grant getting and administration capacity; supporting participation in decision-making; and training community champions. Please contact us for a full list of all the technical assistance currently offered.

No. As a Technical Assistance Center, CCEEJ does not provide funding for individual community projects. Instead, CCEEJ provides assistance to community organizations to successfully apply for and secure funding to support their environmental and energy justice priorities and projects. We will work with your organization to identify funding opportunities and increase successful grant submission, grant getting, and administrative capacity. CCEEJ can also provide assistance including post-award grant management components such as reporting, quality assurance, and understanding grant policies and procedures.

CCEEJ is committed to providing technical assistance and training to non-profit organizations, community-based and grassroots organizations, philanthropic and civic organizations, underserved communities and organizations, rural and remote communities and organizations, faith-based organizations and churches, educational institutions, disadvantaged businesses, local and state governments, Tribal nations and other Tribal organizations and communities, US territories, and utility and health care providers. Yes. CCEEJ will work with your organization to identify current and upcoming funding opportunities to support energy and environmental justice projects in your community.

No. Direct grant writing services cannot be provided by CCEEJ. However, we are committed to providing training for grant writers in your organization, developing partnerships and collaborative networks to facilitate grant writing and grant submissions, and connecting your organization with accessible or pro-bono grant writing services.


Yes. CCEEJ can help translate documents to different languages as well as provide accessible translations of technical, legal, or scientific documents. For more information on translation services, please contact us or fill out our technical assistance form here.

Yes. CCEEJ will be working with community partners to conduct needs assessments.

Yes. One of the areas of technical assistance CCEEJ provides is guidance in navigating federal websites.

There are two TCTACs in Region 9: at SDSU and at University of Arizona. Both TCTACs provide similar services to eligible community organizations. SDSU has particular expertise in energy and environmental health and quality, whereas University of Arizona is more specialized in environmental health and exposure assessments. Both TCTACs have considerable experience working with underserved, rural, remote, Tribal, and Indigenous populations. The two TCTACs are working together to ensure that all Region 9 communities are served equitably and effectively.
